"A step in the right direction"
That's how locals in Midleton are describing the news that emergency dredging works have been approved to minimise flood risk in the area.
The operation will involve the removal of large volumes of stone and gravel which were deposited in the Owenacurra river following the devastation wreaked by Storm Babet last year.
Caroline Leahy of the Midelton and East Cork Flood Protection Group told RedFM News that the works will bring some peace of mind for locals:
"Hopefully, we will be seeing work very soon. Trying to stay positive but we would like to see it started so that we can get a little bit of comfort from actually seeing it done but hopefully September will be the time."
