The ESB and offshore wind company Ørsted have signed an agreement to jointly develop an Irish offshore wind portfolio
The agreement was launched in Cork Chamber’s Fitzgerald House by Minister Simon Coveney.
The agreement would see offshore wind company Orsted becomes a 50/50 partner in a collection of offshore wind projects off the Irish coast.
The ESB and Orsted say the partnership has the potential to deliver up to five gigawatts of renewable energy,
The first of these offshore wind projects is expected to compete in the next Irish offshore wind auction.
The partnership also plans to explore opportunities for renewable hydrogen production.
Ireland's Climate Action Plan has a target of generating 80 % of our electricity from renewable sources as part of the country's transition to net-zero.
