It's estimated around 10 thousand students across the country are on waiting lists for student accommodation.
The Union of Students is holding a protest outside Leinster House calling for urgent action - and is planning a 24 hour sleepout.
It says difficulties accessing a place to stay are worse than ever.
At the start of the month RedFM News revealed that students who are making the move to Cork for their education are finding it difficult to secure accommodation.
The President of UCC students Union outlined how some students are being forced to stay in hostels for months at a time due to the lack of affordable college accommodation in the city.
Caoimhe Walsh, welfare officer with UCC Students Union, says a lot of people starting college are in desperate situations:
"There's students couch surfing. I've also had students who have deferred or dropped out of college because they cannot afford the accommodation. There's also situations where students are paying ridiculous money for houses and rooms that are tiny, that are not worth it at all."
