With the Leaving Certificate starting on Wednesday, students are being reminded of the importance of a good night's sleep.
Seven hours is the recommendation for the average adult.
It's been proven that prioritising sleep is the best way to retain information, but many student opt to pull an all-nighter leading up to their exams instead.
Health scientist and sleep coach, Tom Coleman understands the stress the Leaving Cert brings and says teens can front load their sleep
"When we would look at fatigue, especially mental fatigue we'd look at the 10 days, seven to 10 days before the event, and this is where you can look after your sleep and really build it up and get your levels up to 100%. The I would give yourself a free pass the night before because you will be running through it. This is where it's like skill to learn to switch off the brain as we have to kind of build that bridge to sleep"
