A victim impact statement was read out at Cork Central Criminal court yesterday after Ionut Cosmin Nicolescu was found guilty of murdering the father of three at a derelict house in the city in December 2019.
The jury of eight women and four men deliberated for just under 8 hours before the guilty verdict was read out by the foreman yesterday.
Members of Frankie Dunne’s family were in the court and were visibly moved when the verdict was read out.
The victim impact statement which was read into the record by Margaret Lucey of Support after Homicide on behalf of the Dunne family said that Frankie had “unfortunately succumbed to a life of alcohol”, but they said he had “never lost the love and support of his family.”
The statement said the family would “forever be haunted” by how Frankie died and said that they found the “humour” used by Ionut Cosmin Nicolescu when he made a joke to a co-worker about the circumstances of the death of the father of three, “insulting, disturbing and sickening.”
They also expressed their heartfelt thanks to Joseph Pierce who found Frankie Dunne’s body and said without him, they could still be at a loss as to what happened to Frankie.
Sentencing in the case will be finalised on the 28th of April at the Central Criminal Court sitting in Cork.
