The HSE says they have been left with no other option but to close the 19 bed Owenacurra facility on the grounds of Midleton Community Hospital due to the poor state of the building...

However the families of residents say patients should not be moved and are calling for a new facility to be built on the hospital grounds.

They have also raised concerns that the service provided at the centre will be lost following the closure on October 31st.

One of Rebecca's family members is a long term resident of Owenacurra told RedFM News about her concerns:

"If you have a relative who is very dear to you with mental health issues, you certainly don't want them de-stabilised if there are defects in the building which require closure, then the building needs to be rebuilt in Midleton and the patients kept there, so not to stabilise not have their community broken up, but very importantly, not have the service taken apart because that's services 24/7.
