A former staff member of Debenham's says the feedback from their new documentary has been amazing.
It comes as "406 Days", which tells the story of Irelands longest running industrial relations dispute, aired in UCC's Boole Library yesterday evening
In April 2020 the retailer Debenhams informed around 1000 of their employees via email that they were pulling out of Ireland and closing their 11 stores.
The email told employees they would not receive the redundancies that were agreed in 2016 negotiations and workers took immediate action and mounted picket lines which they maintained for 406 days.
Speaking to RedFM News, former employee of Debenhams Valerie Conlon says they're glad they picketed for so long.
"It's amazing really, because it just shows that what we did people actually recognise it for what it is. You would get people with flippant comments like 'why? Why would they be bothered?'
"It just shows how strong we were, and it shows that people did see what we had done was good.
"The people of Cork were amazing to us. The amount of people that used to be coming down to us with teas and coffees, encouraging us every day, they were fabulous."
