The final cost of the redevelopment of mental health services in Midleton will cost €14.5m.
Works have now been delayed until the end of the year on a new 10 bed facility to replace the Owenacurra Centre which had been due to close for nearly 3 years before it flooded last October.
The cost of the new centre is around €12.7 m while HSE has also bought three new houses in the area for residents which cost close to €2m
Speaking to RedFM News, Maureen O'Sullivan whose brother has been moved to one of the new houses says family members put up a huge fight in June 2021 to get a new centre:
"The respite has been gone all of that time, and there haven't been new admissions all of that time, and there's been a decrease in, you know, the number of beds. And the only reason that they've agreed to build a new center is because we put up such a fight."
