Cllr Michael Paul Murtagh made the point at a meeting of the Council yesterday where Councillors agreed to write to the Taoiseach to ask him to prioritise the issue.
The lack of Gardaí on the street, long waits for ambulances and problems recruiting retained fire fighters in various parts of the city and county have been highlighted numerous times over the past few years, with calls being renewed for better pay and conditions to retain the current emergency service staff and attract new people.
