Five former students were honoured with Alumni Achievement Awards from University College Cork yesterday evening.
Each year UCC honours graduates who have gone on to achieve outstanding success in their chosen fields.
Those honoured include Judge Helen Boyle - a Cork Circuit Court judge; Professor Des Crowley, a doctor and inclusion health leader; Sean Minihane, founder of the Irish Immigration Reform Movement; Doireann Ní Ghríofa, award-winning poet and author; and Professor Martin Tangney - a biofuel pioneer.
President of UCC, Professor John O'Halloran said the five had changed "lives and ... society for the better".
