Flood barriers will be erected in Mallow and Fermoy ahead of Storm Bert's arrival tonight
Pumping arrangements will also be in place in known problem locations such as Midleton and sandbags will be available at priority locations
Senior Engineer with Cork County Council Ger Barry told RedFM News the flood barriers are being erected as a precaution
"Flood barriers are being deployed today in Fermoy and Mallow as a precautionary measure. Storm Bert is going to bring some heavy rainfall tonight and tomorrow morning. Possible impacts are going to include surface water flooding, river flooding and some difficult traveling conditions. We have deployed our crews, and they have been inspecting key risk areas in the last few days"
The ESB is appealing to the public to report any power outages or emergencies directly to them
The high winds and heavy rain associated with Storm Bert this weekend may see some customers knocked off the power grid
Repair crews will be on standby for the weekend to carry out any repairs once it is safe to do so
Jim Hernan from ESB Networks has this advice for anyone who experiences power loss
"The quickest source of information is PowerCheck.ie so check that on your mobile device or iPad all known outages and the estimated restoration times will be up there. However, if you check that and you don't see your own location included in an outage phone 1800 372 999"
