Residents affected by flooding in Midleton last October are calling for the river bed to be dredged ahead of storm season.

The removal of gravel from the river and flood plain was recommended following the devastation in the town last year.

However, dredging is normally not allowed take place between October 1st and April 30th for environmental reasons.

Mona Stromsoe  of the Midleton and East Cork Flood Protection Group told RedFM news homes will be at risk if dredging isn't completed

"Certain areas of the river the particularly after Storm Babet, the riverbed has increased. It's risen about two to three feet, so there are houses that are at serious risk if the gravel and the debris is not removed from the rivers before the Autumn"
