Members of a flood action group in Midleton have taken measures into their own hands 16 months after floods devastated the town.
The group has given out sensors to residents and business owners which raise the alarm if water comes into their properties like it did in October 2023 during Storm Babet.
The county council has cleared tonnes of debris from the Owenacurra River as well as installed heavy sandbags along the Water's Edge.
Speaking to RedFM News, Mona Stromsoe from Midleton & East Cork Flood Protection Group says people in Midleton find it hard to sleep for fear of their house flooding again:
"We gave away some of these free sensors, they're very sensitive, so if it happens and you're upstairs in bed the alarm will go off. We also put together some checklists because there is no emergency plan for people. People are still suffering the mental trauma of what happened in October 2023 and still afraid that it will happen again."
