Winds of up to 120 kilometres per hour are set to hit parts of country, as the remnants of Hurricane Ernesto track towards Ireland.

A status yellow wind warning has been issued for Mayo and Galway.

Cork City Council says low lying areas of the city may experience tidal flooding during high tide up to Friday

Strong winds and high waves may lead to pooling in the usual areas including Morrison’s Quay, South Terrace and South Mall

Cathal Nolan from Ireland's Weather Channel says we can expect blustery conditions up until Friday:

"We will see a pretty much blustery day on Thursday. We do take a little dip as we go into Thursday night and Friday Morning. There's a low pressure system that we are looking at very carefully at the moment because it could be stronger than tonight's system. We could well see wind speeds with that system getting up to 110 or 120 kilometres an hour."
