Florists are extremely busy in the run up to Mother’s Day this weekend.

Children will be showing their appreciation for their mothers on Sunday with gifts or trips to restaurants.

Research by Beko Ireland show flowers are the top gift this year with 35 percent of people buying a bunch for their mums followed by holiday vouchers and chocolates.

Speaking to RedFM News, Stacey O’Neil from Shandon Flowers in the city says florists are working round the clock ahead of their busiest day of the year:

"This Sunday is mothers day which is a huge event for us, it's even busier than Valentine's Day. I think whether someone has a mum here or passed, they want to buy something for them. So we're up the walls, we're looking forward to it, it's a long run into it because we're preparing with our planning and buying so we're happy that it's coming close now and we can get the shipments out to all the mums."
