Gardaí announced yesterday that a cold-case review of the murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier in 1996 in West Cork will take place.
It comes after calls had been made for a new inquiry into the case, due to potential new information and evidence being given to Gardaí.
Former sergeant-in-charge of the Cold Case Unit, Alan Bailey, says the crime can be solved, after over a quarter of a century:
"Time doesn't affect cold case reviews, if anything, it has the opposite effect. People may have changed loyalties, or are no longer in fear, maybe advances in science. All those things together make a huge difference in crime investigation."
