Former Debenhams workers who lost their jobs when the department store went into liquidation in 2020 are to get just four weeks' pay
The Labour Court has awarded the payment to almost 800 former staff, 300 of them from Cork, for the manner in which they were sacked four years ago
The workers were informed by email that their jobs were gone and that they would not receive redundancy payments agreed in 2016
They mounted picket lines which they manned for 406 days during the pandemic demanding that their redundancy agreement be honoured
Speaking to RedFM News Former Debenhams Shop Steward Valerie Conlon is disappointed with the Labour Court award
"It was meant to have been 16 weeks, and the WRC last year actually us awarded us eight weeks, but KPMG appealed that, So they brought it down to four weeks then. So you know, I know it is very little but people do have to get on with their lives - it's a small win, it's a little win, but it is a win"
