The former Finance Minister says he hasn’t heard any whispers of Micheál Martin stepping down as the leader of Fianna Fáil.

It’s reported that the Tanáiste is considering running for president next year.

Speaking to RedFM News EU Commissioner Designate Michael McGrath insists that Micheál Martin will lead Fianna Fáil into the next general election:

"Micheál Martin is a fantastic leader of our party. He will certainly lead us into the General Election, and you know, who knows what will happen after that. And I think at a time when there's such uncertainty globally, we need that kind of experience at the helm of government, and I've no doubt that he will run a very successful campaign."
