A former Lord Mayor of the City says a "mobile" supervised injection centre could come first in Cork.
The first centre to supervise drug injections for addicts will open in Dublin in September and will be operated by Merchant's Quay Ireland.
Meanwhile a study will be carried out next month to see if a similar centre is needed in Cork.
There's been a recent spate of overdoses in Cork and Dublin linked to synthetic opioids which are 40 times more powerful than heroin.
Councillor Colm Kelleher says a mobile injection centre could be up and running quickly in Cork:
"When we look at the findings and reports from Dublin. And you know, it really wouldn't take that much to get a minibus with the relevant equipment. So, I personally believe that we're probably composting clock, but again we are, you know, dependent on the findings come out of Merchants Quay.
