The first Intervarsity Law Summit will take place this weekend at Rochestown Park Hotel Cork and will welcome former President and barrister Mary McAleese on Friday the 25th.
The event is being hosted by the UCC Law Society and will see seven universities and thirteen legal firms in attendance, along with both past and present supreme and high court judges.
Among Mary McAleese on the list of speakers are Dr Rhona Mahony, Senator David Norris, Colm O’Gorman and Ombudsman Emily O’Reilly.
It is one of the largest gatherings of legal professionals and is the first joint event held by seven of Ireland’s Universities and their associated Law Societies.
A total of thirteen law firms, the Bar Council, and the Law Society of Ireland will be represented at the event as sponsors.
Reflecting the theme of ‘Breaking Barriers’, Friday’s Main Event is a keynote Q&A session with former President Mary McAleese, while a panel discussion on Sunday will feature contributions from the former Master of the National Maternity Hospital, Dr Rhona Mahony, Senator David Norris, Amnesty International Ireland Executive Director Colm O’Gorman, Ombudsman Emily O’Reilly and a video from activist Gina Martin.
The Summit will also play host to the national finals of the Moot and Mock Trial competitions - the first time all seven law schools based at University College Cork, Dublin City University, Maynooth University, NUI Galway, Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin, and University of Limerick compete against each other to crown a national champion.
The thirteen participating law firms are A&L Goodbody, Arthur Cox, William Fry, Matheson, McCann Fitzgerald, Maples, DLA Piper, Eversheds Sutherland, Mason Hayes Curran, Ronan Daly Jermyn, Pinsent Masons, Comyn Kelleher Tobin, and Dechert.
The Summit has chosen Áiséirí Aislinn Centre as this year’s charity partner.
