76 year old Michael Noel Sheehan of Chimneyfields, Glenville, Co Cork was previously found guilty at a sitting of Cork Circuit Criminal Court.
Sheehan was found guilty of indecently assaulting the 13 year old boy in Glenville between the 7th of January 1986 and the 30th of April 1987.
The incident had come to light when the victim made a report to a phone line set up for anyone with concerns about historic abuse in Scouting.
Judge Helen Boyle said Sheehan has been in a position of trust and authority in his role as a Scout leader when he carried out the assault.
The now 48 year old complainant said in a victim impact statement that what had happened to him had robbed his innocence and had left him feeling isolated.
He said he had lost interest in school and had difficulty concentrating and felt like he was looking at life from the outside.
Judge Boyle noted that Sheehan does not accept the jury’s decision and said his defence council said that he will become homelessness when released from custody.
She sentenced him to two years in prison with the final year suspended.
