Members of the trade union Fórsa who are working at local authorities across the country have voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action, up to and including strike action at their conference in the city today.
The ballot on day one of the conference comes on the back of a disagreement between the union and the Local Government Management Agency about job evaluations.
The union which represents over 10,000 staff at 31 local authorities across the country say local authority staff are working above their pay grades without being properly compensated.
Fórsa say the matter stems from the economic crisis when staff were given additional responsibilities after 10,000 jobs were lost.
