Fota Wildlife Park: regulations around movement of endangered animals must be changed to aid conservation projects

Zoos, wildlife parks and aquariums in Ireland and the UK have written to the Taoiseach and British Prime Minister calling for the transfer of endangered animals to return to pre-Brexit levels.

1,400 animals were transferred from UK to EU Zoos and aquariums in 2019, compared to just 48 last year.

The laws are effecting the movement of cheetahs, tigers, a langar monkey and two bison at the park.

Speaking to RedFM News, director of Fota Wildlife Park Sean McKeown says they are struggling to access breeding programmes due to the rule changes:
