It comes following a partial collapse of the quay wall at South Gate Bridge this week

Last month Independent councillor Kieran McCarthy raised the matter on RedFM News and urged the City Council to address subsidence along the quay wall along French’s Quay in particular as he was concerned that the damage will only get worse when construction begins on the planned event centre.

Many of the city’s quays are damaged as the tide come in twice a day and takes away mortar, and he says there is now an urgent need to repair them.

Council engineers conducted an urgent inspection on the latest damage and are satisfied that there is no immediate risk to adjoining property or the bridge.

Arrangements are now being put in place to conduct a more detailed inspection to determine what repairs are needed
