Fresh calls have been made for more gardai to be allocated to Cork in the face of rising violence
In the past three weeks there have been two petrol bombings and two shooting incidents in the city which has led to residents in some communities living in fear
237 recruits graduated from Templemore this year and just four have been stationed in Cork - with one allocated to Garda HQ at Anglesea Street
Speaking to RedFM News Sinn Fein's Donnchadh O'Laoighaire says the lack of manpower on the ground is having a negative impact
"With the best will in the world, they cannot simply fill the gaps. And unfortunately, communities will experience that there have been slow call outs, not being able to respond to every incident. They're doing the best they can, but we need more guards and we need more at a national level. As a whole, the Gardai are under-resourced but here in Cork in particular we're simply not getting a fair shake, we are not getting enough of what is required on the ground"
