Ballincollig Fire Station is not expected to re-open in the near future despite full time firefighters in Cork city ending their dispute around increased call-outs
Firefighters in the city began their action in April after they were tasked to emergency calls in Ballincollig as the fire station was closed in November
Locals claim the town needs a full time fire service however the City Council says the station is unsuitable as a building providing a full-time fire service.
Cork City Firefighter and SIPTU representative Billy Crowley told RedFM News that a plan will be drawn up once a full review of the fire service is completed
"Ballincollig fire station was originally built as a retained fire station and needs a bit of work. It needs to be upgraded if it was to run as a permanent full time station and on top of that we're heading into a major review of Cork City Fire Service itself and the operation side of it - how we provide the best service for the people of Cork city. I think it's important that we we look at that and sit down and have a look at all the facts and figures and the statistics and come up with a plan that's best for everybody in Cork"
