Cork's Tyndall National Institute has secured more than €56M in funding.

The Education Minister made the announcement today which makes Tyndall one of the most successful institutes in Ireland for European funding.

For every €1 of EU funding  research framework programme approximately €11 is generated in direct and indirect economic effects through innovations, new technologies and products.

Speaking to RedFM News CEO of Tyndall National Institute, Prof. William Scanlon says 2019 was a very successful year for Tyndall.

"In 2019 alone we secured another €10m worth of new projects.

"Tyndall is also the main Irish beneficiary in European funding for ICT research, as well as being the principal contributor to UCC's position in the top five universities for ICT funding across Europe.

"Of course for all of this research to be relevant we have to successfully transfer it to industry, and we support businesses through access to the very best research talent, and we help to promote and commercialise research."
