Funding for 'treacherous' stretch of road in North Cork hangs in the balance

Transport Infrastructure Ireland said it has not been identified as a 'high collision location' in the last three years.

Sections of the N73 Mallow to Mitchelstown road have been described as 'an accident waiting to happen', especially by truck drivers who have staged several protests on the road in recent times.

A €1.8 million fund to improve a short section of the road between Clogher Cross and Waterdike has been secured however between eight and ten million euro is needed for works on the entire stretch.

TII say analysis of the section show it is not an accident blackspot.

The issue was raised at the Public Accounts Committee today by local TD Seán Sherlock.

In response, the Secretary General of the Department of Transport Ken Spratt says they will investigate the funding allocation for the N73:
