Gardaí in the city are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman, whose body was discovered in an apartment on Liberty Street this morning.
Gardaí and Emergency Services were alerted to an incident at roughly half-past-six this morning.
The woman, in her 20s, was found unresponsive at the scene and pronounced dead a short time later.
A male, also in his 20s was arrested this morning and is currently detained in Bridewell Garda Station.
The scene is being preserved to allow for a forensic examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.
The body of the deceased woman remains at the scene.
Gardaí notified the Office of the State Pathologist and a post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out later today by Dr. Margot Bolster.
The results of the post-mortem will determine the course of the investigation.
