Garda numbers in Cork have been dropping over the past decade despite the fact that the population is on the rise
At the end of last year it emerged that some garda stations including Carrignavar, Durrus, and Glengarriff, had no gardaí
The rapid population growth in Carrigaline has not been matched, with the number of gardai stationed in the busy suburb remaining static
Speaking to RedFM News local Fianna Fail Councillor Seamus McGrath says he believes garda stations in the city and suburbs are under resourced
"If you take Carrigaline for example it is now a very large urban area, and like any urban area you have a policing need, and currently I suppose we do not have the visibility of gardai on the ground that we need. So we have ongoing challenges, and that's something that we are continually highlighting and trying to press with garda management that we need a greater allocation of gardai locally"
