Gardai are investigating following a confrontation between a man involved in the library protests and the City's Lord Mayor at the weekend
On Saturday Lord Mayor Cllr Kieran McCarthy was confronted by far-right demonstrator Ross Lahive as he was attending the North Main Street carnival
The interaction which was recorded by Mr Lahive on his mobile phone shows him challenging the Lord Mayor about his comments in the wake of the protests at the City Library about the availability of LGBTQ+ books
Cllr Kieran McCarthy began singing a piece from the musical Oklahoma and once he finished he walked away at which point it appears a scuffle ensued during which the phone was dropped
The Lord Mayor is not commenting on the matter as it is now the subject of a Garda investigation.
