Gardai have arrested a man in his late 20s following an aggravated burglary in Mahon this morning.
A man broke into a house at around 2:30am and assaulted a woman in her 50s with a metal travel mug when she discovered him.
He fled the scene when he another member of the household appeared.
The woman received injuries to her head and the man was later arrested and taken to the Bridewell Garda Station where he is currently being detained.
