At around five to four on Thursday afternoon, two masked men entered the post office section of a shop in Ballinhassig - one armed with a shotgun, and other with a machete - and demanded a sum of cash from staff.

The men fled the scene in a grey Citroen C3, which is believed to have been driven by a third man.

The car was subsequently set on fire in a field near Spur Hill at around 4.20pm - anyone who saw the car on fire is asked to contact Gardaí.

Gardaí in Bandon are appealing to anyone who was on Spur Hill Road in Ballinhassig between 3.45pm and 4.30pm on Thursday afternoon to contact them.

Any drivers travelling on the Spur Hill Road, who may have dashcam footage, are also asked to make it available to Gardaí.
