Gardaí in Cork are appealing to the public to be careful of rogue traders who are currently preying on elderly people in the city and county.
Some scammers are claiming to be tradesmen who have time to kill because of an apparent last-minute job cancellation nearby.
They then charge excessive fees for the work done, or work they claim has been done.
Gardaí are advising people not to deal with people offering door-to-door services until you have spoken with a family member, friend or guard first.
