Gardaí in North Cork have charged a man with possession of controlled drugs and offensive weapons.
The Fermoy Garda Roads-Policing and Burglary Units were carrying out a checkpoint at Watergrasshill on Thursday when a driver failed a roadside test for cannabis.
They searched the driver's vehicle and found a quantity of cannabis, as well as pepper spray - and a gas-powered handgun with rubber pellet ammunition that emit pepper spray.
These have been sent for forensic ballistic analysis.
The man was later charged with driving under the influence of an intoxicant - and with failing to provide a blood sample at the station.
He was released on bail to appear at court, and a file is being prepared to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
