Residents in Kilcully and Ballincrokig say they are in disbelief after an arson attack at an elderly couples home.

Emergency services were alerted to a home on Glenville Street after a suspected petrol bomb was thrown through the house window at 9pm last night.

Fire crews extinguished the blaze and treated an elderly couple for smoke inhalation and Gardaí investigating the scene say no arrests have been made.

Speaking to RedFM News, Charlie Clarke from Kilcully and Ballincrokig Residents Association says he can't remember anything this shocking ever happening in the area:

"We've never had anything like that and I'm here since the late 80's. And a lot of the people are around so it's appauling we're absoloutely shocked about it."

Victor Shine from Cork City Fire Brigade says his crews were first on the scene:

"The fire service recieved the call at 09.08pm to a house fire in Kilcully. The front room was well alight, there was a substansial fire. Two persons had excited the house and they had to be treated for smoke inhalation by the ambulance service."
