Gardaí investigating the fatal stabbing and serious assault that occurred at a house in Carrigaline on Saturday have charged a man in his 40s and is due to appear before Cork District Court this morning
27 year old Shane Murphy was found in an upstairs room at his home in Seaview Avenue in the town at 3.30am on Saturday.
He had suffered stab wounds and paramedics worked to try and resuscitate him but were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy was carried out by assistant state pathologist Margaret Bolster yesterday - results have not been released for operational reasons.
The alarm was raised after Shane's father Weeshie presented at Cork University Hospital with injuries after being assaulted in the incident - the 75 year old also received stab wounds.
His injuries are described as serious but not life threatening.
Gardai have confirmed that a 42 year old man arrested in Passage West on Saturday morning, who was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, has now been charged and will appear before Cork District Court this morning.
