Gardaí are at the scene of what they say is an active investigation on Patrick St outside the Savoy building.
The incident, which is believed to be a violent nature, took place at around 3.45pm and emergency services including gardaí and the ambulance were alerted.
A man has been taken to Cork University Hospital with what are understood to be serious injuries.
The footpath has been closed off and the scene is currently preserved for a technical examination, delays are being reported on the Patrick St route.
Gardaí have confirmed to RedFM News that they have launched an investigation.
