Gardai are warning the public of a new text scam, called the Grandparent Scam.
An unknown number will send a text pretending to be a relative, claiming they've borrowed a phone.
The scammer will then try to get information to make themselves more believable, and will request money.
Detective Michael Cryan from the National Economic Bureau says never volunteer information in a conversation with unknown people:
