The Government's dismissing claims the First Home Scheme is causing housing prices to rise here.

The average purchase price for homes bought using the scheme is €379,000 , while the average support being provided is around 66 thousand.

Meanwhile last month house prices in Cork City rose by 9% compared to the year before.

Minister for Housing Darragh O'Brien says there's no evidence government schemes are pushing up house prices:

"The first home scheme, DAC commission, KPMG would have seen a number of weeks ago, who carried an independent review of the scheme itself, and have found in no way, shape or form, does this lead to any price inflation. What we're actually leading to is more people actually being able to buy homes. So every six months, we keep it under under review."
