Save Our Bride Otters says they want the best flooding solution for Blackpool not just a solution that protects the village but enhances it.
The State conceded defeat in the case taken by the group which opposed the plan which consisted of flood defence walls, embankments, the removal and replacement of historic bridges and the culverting of the 350m stretch of the River Bride in Blackpool Village.
The group say they hope that the OPW will now opt for the upstream storage option as it would reduce the need for hard defences on the scheme and leave Blackpool Village with a river.
Speaking to RedFM News Chris Moody of the Save Our Bride Otters campaign says covering over the river through culverting is an outdated concept and not acceptable to locals:
"The plan to culvert Blackpool, the covering over of this section in the village it's 350 metres long. You know it will be gone forever. You know that's the end of the Bride in Blackpool village. We already have over a kilometre of culverting between Blackpool Village and the Lee. The plan was to add a further 350 metres to that and I think at this stage Blackpool has had enough of culverting, I think it's outdated concept and it would be a real loss to Blackpool village there are other alternatives, it's not necessary to destroy the Bride in Blackpool village."
