The Guinness Cork Jazz Festival is expected to generate 25 million euro for the local economy this weekend.
The Festival was established in 1978 and has gone from strength to strength over the decades.
This year, there will be plenty of outdoor jazz as part of the Big Fringe with big brass bands performing on the super dome stage at Emmet Place as part of 'Jazz at the Plaza'.
This is the first big festival to be hosted in Ireland in 18 months and organisers say they have pulled out all the stops for this year's event.
Fiona Collins of the Cork Jazz Festival Committee told RedFM News that she expects venues to be busy but that everything will be operated in a safe manner:
"Some of the gigs have sold out for the weekend and we're really happy about that. But I would imagine that people will just try and come into town to see what's happening and get a feel for... even though I hate using the word, a kind of sense of normality from what we've been experiencing. It's just to feel something new and kind of take in that good vibe that's around the place."
