Traders in Midleton saw their premises and business stock wiped out in flash floods last October which left Main Street under 3 feet of water in just 8 minutes
Cork County Council is currently trying to secure funding for the establishment of a dedicated flood defence and relief team with it's own ringfenced resources
It comes as the Midleton and East Cork Flood Action group is leading a campaign to have interim flood prevention measures established
Spokesperson Caroline Leahy told RedFM News that residents remain anxious every time it rains
"It's walking to the river, it's pacing, it's checking the weather forecast, it's checking the millilitres of rain. It's an ongoing issue for everyone and even people that haven't been flooded because just because they weren't flooded the last time doesn't necessarily mean they're gonna escape the next one. So yeah, it is an ongoing anxiety across the across the community really"
