Calls have been made on the Commission for Regulation of Utilities to investigate after thousands of complaints of brown dirty water coming from household taps.

Uisce Éireann has begun works to replace over a kilometre of old cast iron pipes on Popham's Road but local residents fear their water quality may worsen during the works.

A peaceful protest will take place this Saturday by people who have had to replace household appliances because of dirty brown water coming into their homes.

Speaking to RedFM News, Sonya Cashman says the dirty water in her home in Blackpool needs to be investigated:

"Come out and test a sample of  the water even do it in a few spots, and every area, you know, it doesn't have to be every house you know what's coming out of my tap will be coming out of somebody else's"
