Nearly 60,000 and businesses remain without power this morning.
The ESB says western counties are worst hit - and hopes to have the majority of those affected restored by the end of today with over 2500 affected in Cork.
Schools in Cork are staying closed today following government advice.
Ralph Riegel, southern correspondent with the Irish Independent, is in Cork this morning.
"We're talking about thousands of homes without power, a significant number of other homes are either without water, or have low pressure, or are under boil water notices.
"You're talking trees down throughout the city and county - a lot of near misses but thankfully no injuries."
