Some hopeful homebuyers camped outside a Cork housing development over the weekend.

Over 300 people queued to put deposits down on €500,000 homes in the second phase of Bayly in Marybourough.

Phase one drew more than 1,000 prospective buyers last year with many spending the night at the development to be first in line to buy the homes.

Speaking to RedFM News, Ronan Lyons from Daft.ie says the amount people queuing to put down deposits on homes shows the lack of supply:

"There's very little availability of homes at the moment. You can see there are people queing up to put down a deposit and move in. At an economy wide level it's a cry for help in that the housing system desperately needs increased output to try and get supply in balance with demand."
