The horologist who has maintained the clocks on St Anne’s Shandon has stepped back due to safety concerns.

Philip Stokes has raised serious health and safety concerns regarding the structure of the clock.

Three of the iconic four-faced clocks at Shandon are currently reading the wrong time and the clock on the fourth face has stopped.

The City Council is looking for funding to fix the clocks but there is no estimated repair timeline.

Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show Philip Stokes says the small wooden windows on the clock faces are carrying a heavy weight and are in a poor state:

"There's little small windows just below the hands that were put in for servicing and maintenance but unfortunately they're in fairly bad shape. The wooden windows are carrying a bit of weight, they are in disrepair and there's a bit of a weakness on them."
