The expected reversal of the VAT rate for the hospitality sector to 9% in the next budget means the industry continues to face a tough year ahead

The reduction in VAT has been mooted during Government formation talks and has been welcomed as the Irish Hotels Federation say the sector is going through a difficult time

Many in the industry have been forced to close their doors due to the high cost of doing business with others operating reduced opening hours

Speaking to RedFM News President of the IHF Michael Magner says it's expensive to do business in Ireland and any supports to alleviate those costs are welcome

"In business whether it's in hospitality or tourism, but in any business, Ireland is a high cost economy. It's an expensive place to do business. And it's a challenge, there's no doubt about it. But at the end of the day, we can see some light in the horizon and we have to welcome that"
