The Irish Hotels Federation are to collaborate with the CSO as their tourism figures are conflicting.
The CSO is reporting a 23% drop in the number of foreign visitors to Ireland in the first three months of this year.
However hoteliers say they're occupancy is up 2% in the same period which suggest that tourism figures are growing not falling.
President of the Irish Hotels Federation Michael Magner says it's hard to explain the anomaly:
There could be an explanation on the fact that the domestic barrier on the market is rebounding, to the figures that the CSO is reporting to, to a drop of a further 15% for March of 2025 versus March of 2024 wouldn't correlate with the data we have so I think it's important to collaborate with the CSO to explore the figures in the context of the wider industry data that we have available to us."
