The difficulties faced by some people at this time of the year is being highlighted in a new mental health campaign by the HSE.
'Connecting for life Cork' is the suicide and self-harm reduction plan for the city and county that aims to highlight the supports available over Christmas.
The plan from Cork Kerry Community Healthcare includes Pieta House, Samaritans and Childline.
Speaking to RedFM News, Resource Officer for Suicide Prevention in Cork Martin Ryan is encouraging people to reach out if they feel someone they know might be in difficulty.
"We as a community and we as a city have to keep an eye out, and do what we do best which is look out for each other.
"This is why it's so important that it's not just about the individuals who might be feeling low or isolated from communities.
"What's important as well is for those individuals who are in the community to look out for their other community members as well."
The number for the Samaritans is 116 123 and more information is available on 'your mental health.ie'
